Exchange programme

Experiencing a new culture, speaking a foreign language and practising autonomy with responsibility are some of the skills developed during the exchange programmes promoted by Deutsche Schule Curitiba.

The partnership with the Grundschule Rötgesbüttel - Elementary School - began in 2008. The first exchange group traveled to Germany in October of the same year. With the growth of Deutsche Schule Curitiba, in 2015 the partnership was expanded to Grundschule Ribbesbüttel, which also started welcoming our exchange students.

Since then, every year, 5th graders from Deutsche Schule Curitiba have the opportunity to take part in an exchange programme in Germany.  For two weeks, the exchange students stay with families whose children attend the mentioned partner schools. The children follow the school and the family routine of their host brothers and sisters.

The bonding between the children from the programme in Rötgesbüttel and Ribbesbüttel are strengthened once again when it’s Deutsche Schule Curitiba’s turn to welcome the German children, who then stay with families from our school community and attend regular classes here.

From 2022, Deutsche Schule Curitiba began offering its 6th to 9th graders a new, optional exchange programme in the ‘sommercamp’ format, lasting approximately three weeks. Participants stay at the Humboldt Institut boarding school, have contact with exchange students from various countries and attend an intensive German course. At the same time, they take part in sporting, recreational and cultural activities, as well as trips and excursions around Germany.

The benefits for the exchange students go far beyond practising the language. Strengthening their self-esteem and broadening their understanding of the world are significant achievements resulting from this international experience.
