Our History

1998

Deutsche Schule Curitiba’s kindergarten was founded on November 3rd 1998 under the name Kinderland. Initially, it catered for children from foreign families involved in the setting up of European companies in the greater Curitiba region.

2001

In 2001, with the increase in the number of Brazilian children enrolled in Early Childhood Education, Kinderland Curitiba officially became a Bilingual Kindergarten. On that occasion, our current Early Childhood Education centre was opened: a space with an extensive green area that encourages creativity, autonomy and free play.

2005

In 2005, the elementary school was set up in a nearby second location. The classrooms were built prioritizing the viewing of the woodland area, which offers many possibilities for outdoor teaching activities in addition to those carried out in the classroom.

2008

In 2008 the first elementary class finished the Brazilian primary school cycle I with an exchange programme to Germany.  Ten years later, in 2018, the first 9th grade class completed the primary school cycle II.

2014

As a result of the expansion, in 2014 the school adopted the name Deutsche Schule Curitiba. That same year, it joined the World Association of German Schools (WDA) and the Programme of Partner Schools in Germany (PASCH), run by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA).

2016

In 2016, Deutsche Schule Curitiba was authorised to administer the German language proficiency test Deutsches Sprachdiplom I (DSD I) by the German Ministry of Education and Culture. In 2018, it joined the group of schools that founded the OEBEA (Organisation of Brazilian Schools Teaching German), of which it is still a member.

2023

In 2023, the school joined the UNESCO ASPNet.
